iPod nano review
Welcome to our iPod nano review section.
In 2001 Apple's iPod was launched and since then, well its pretty much dominated the entire mp3 market.
As the years have gone by mp3 players and especially the iPod's have packed more and more features whilst staying the same or even reducing their physical size.
The iPod nano seems to be what those crazy people at Apple have been working
years to accomplish, a small, sturdy and yet easy to use mp3 player with big
enough storage capacity for about 1000 songs!
But...
is the iPod Nano really that sturdy?
is the iPod Nano really that small?
is the iPod Nano really that easy to use?
Well here at helpFinding we've only gone and found out for you.
What's in the box?
The iPod Nano is package as you would expect from Apple and basically the same as opening any of the other iPod's. Everything was laid out in a simple, well organised and an elegant manner. Now for the fun bit..
Taking the iPod nano out of the box, well what can I say. pictures do not do the nano justice, it is small, did I say small? I mean small! It's amazing how small and light the nano is. In fact it's so small it even fits in the coin pocket of your jeans! I can't believe how they've managed to make something so small and yet so powerful with a really aesthetically pleasing design.
The iPod nano comes with the following accessories:
Standard white iPod headphones
USB cable
Docking adapter
Let's boot this baby up
The ipod Nano as with all hard drive based iPod's is the same, very easy to use. The click wheel is of solid state and touch sensitive, the various buttons on all sides of the wheel depress slightly when pressing them. The user interface is same except for a couple of new features
1) World clock feature
You can now setup however many clocks you'd like in various cities around the world.
2) Stopwatch
A handy stopwatch with pause and lap time, if you hit the lap button after each lap of a race for example, at the end of the race the iPod nano will give you stats for each lap in that race such as best lap etc. All the stopwatch data is saved for later, this is handy if you are timing multiple races and want to check the stats at a later time.
3) Screen lock
This basically locks the screen for you, to unlock the screen you have to turn the scroll wheel to your pre set unclock key.
Apart from the three new features the iPod nano works much the same as most of the other iPod's, generally very easily, with a nice big screen and the oh so easy to use scroll wheel you won't find any problem getting to grips with the iPod nano.
What does the iPod nano sound like though?
The iPod nano plays mp3's with the same technology as the 4G iPod's using the audio codec (WM8975). If this means nothing to you don't worry, and in answer to the question it sound really, really good.Pros:
- Very small and light, sits easily in your hand or pocket
- Extremely durable
- New features (nano-only) such as screen lock, world clock and stop watch
- Charges over USB
- Excellent battery life (14hrs)
- Although screen is big for music, it's quite small for looking at photos
- Storage capacities is smaller than the iPod mini that it's replaced
- Transfer over Firewire not allowed—USB only
- Battery cannot be removed
- Incompatible with mini and normal iPod accessories (ones that require the remote connector)
- No AV output
- No remote
